The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) is the key entity within the United Nations system mandated to promote gender equality and women's empowerment at international, regional and national levels. In line with the organization's 2011-2013 Strategic Plan, preventing violence against women and girls (VAW/G) and expanding access to survivor services is one of the six main goals of UN Women. The Strategic Plan also highlights the important role of UN Women in supporting a strengthening of system-wide approaches for more coherent e to accelerate efforts in key areas, including by intensifying the Secretary-General's global UNiTE to End Violence against Women Campaign.

Due to the acceleration of social and political mobilization to address VAW/G at different levels, the issue is now firmly positioned high on the international agenda as a priority for peace and security, poverty reduction, economic productivity, gender equality and halting the spread of HIV. These developments, which include landmark UN agreements as well as national progress in key areas such as legal and policy reform, enhanced knowledge base, and numerous awareness-raising initiatives, culminated with the launch of the Secretary-General's Campaign UNiTE to End Violence against in 2008. Building upon existing efforts and bringing together a range of stakeholders, the UNiTE Campaign provides a historic opportunity to push for making real progress to prevent and respond to all forms of violence against women and girls by 2015.

The regional component of this Campaign, Asia-Pacific UNiTE, was launched in Bangkok on 25 November 2010. It is coordinated by the Asia-Pacific Regional Coordination Mechanism Thematic Working Group on Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (TWG-GEEW), Co-chaired by UN Women and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP).

Based in the UN Women Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific, the Asia-Pacific UNiTE Campaign Manager will work under the overall supervision and guidance of the Director of the UN Women Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific, in close coordination with the TWG-GEEW UNiTE working group and the Global UNiTE Campaign Secretariat in New York. He/she will be responsible for coordinating with internal and external clients to ensure the effective implementation of the UNiTE Campaign in the region; providing technical and management support to facilitate the monitoring, documentation and reporting on results and lessons learned at national and regional level; developing communications materials and strategic partnerships; and organizing high-level functions and events undertaken under the framework of UNiTE.
Summary of Responsibilities:

Provide technical and management support to ensure effective implementation of the UNiTE Campaign in the Asia-Pacific Region and to strengthen inter-agency commitments for the campaign at all levels.
Develop and manage the implementation of the Secretary-General's UNiTE to End Violence against Women Campaign in the Asia-Pacific region.
Communications and strategic partnerships for social mobilization.
Knowledge management, monitoring and reporting on results of the UNiTE Campaign.

Expected Results:

Enhanced coordination of the SG's UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign in the Asia-Pacific region supported through the provision of quality Secretariat and management support for inter-agency coordination, at regional and national level.
Increased number and quality of strategic partnerships and joint initiatives that build synergies between UNiTE and existing organizations and programmes to EVAW/G, involving UN Agencies, governments, civil society and other partners.
Increased number and quality of knowledge and communications tools and/or products produced and disseminated linked to the five outcomes of the UNiTE Campaign.

Impact of Results:

The key results have an impact on the successful implementation of the UNiTE Campaign in the Asia-Pacific region at national and regional levels. In particular, the key results will have an impact on inter-agency coordination, the creation of strategic partnerships, and the development and dissemination of knowledge and communications tools and products around the UNiTE Campaign.
Required Skills and Experience:

Master's degree or equivalent in Social Science, Political Sciences, Public Administration, International Relations, or related field.
Minimum 7 years' relevant experience, preferably from the UN System or an international organization.
Proven managerial experience in developing, implementing and monitoring programmes, projects and/or campaigns.
Substantive knowledge in Ending Violence against Women preferred.
Familiarity with the Asia-Pacific region highly desirable.
Fluency in English.
Knowledge of other UN languages an advantage.
