Need: Funding for our challenged children and short stay home for trafficked victims.
Trafficking of women and children for exploitation in running illegal activities such as prostitution, drug running and begging, is one of the gravest of organized crimes that stretches beyond national and international boundaries and jurisdictions. Taking measures to curb and stop human trafficking requires a 360 degrees approach involving the families, other community members, local authorities and other social representatives for putting in effect the actions of prevention, prosecution and protection. There are several initiatives by authorities to restrict trafficking but precious little is there for rehabilitating the victims after recovery and hence our effort.
We wish to raise sufficient funds for building a short stay home and rehabilitation centre at Kultali in South 24 Parganas District of West Bengal for women rescued from being trafficked and women who have been victims of trafficking with facilities for counseling, vocational training and a link to the means of earning a livelihood independently and with dignity in order to rehabilitate them back into mainstream society. Also to start a helpline for emergency contact and counseling.
Our Community Based Rehabilitation Program covers 50 children with various degrees of physical and mental disabilities who are currently being supported by few private donors and own resources. However, this program needs sustained support from funding bodies in order to be scaled up to include more such cases which are in dire need of this type of support, specially those belonging to families which suffer from acute financial challenges as well. We attempt to bring these people into the mainstream, help them avail of education in regular schools and make them and their families aware of the various government policies and human rights policies so that they can avail of aid and facilities available without being exploited.
