New Year has dawned and many of us - at least you and I, are looking forward to a brighter day - yet, not all of us are this lucky, among them my friend Hillary Karani Kivairu. But you and I can change that. With a little help, we can help him look forward to a brighter year, hence my plea to you for assistance.

Hilary Karani Kivairu, a university graduate who had just graduated and commenced work before illness struck, is currently admitted in MP Shah Hospital awaiting a kidney transplant. He has been admitted in various hospitals for the major part of 2008, as the search for a transplant was going on. Now he has found a donor, and the whole operation plus medication is estimated at ksh 2 million, (USD 26,700).His father's salary has been catering for his constant stay in hospital, and his family is unable to raise the urgently required funds to enable the operation to take place.

I visited Karani in late December 2008 and was struck by his bravery. His father told me that he had been weaker, that he was getting stronger. He sat up on his bed, and we talked a little. Then I noticed his hand groping, as if he could not see... I looked puzzled. His mother told me that he has in the course of treatment lost use of his eyesight. I admired his determination to go on, his willingness to live. I was proud of him. He did not allow in the self-pity of asking 'why this to a graduate'. Even if he did, it was not for long.

May be that is an important part of why I seek your help. A dollar, a euro, a shilling; five thousand dollars, five thousand Euro, five thousand shillings, whatever you can, please contribute it to Karani's Get Well Kitty. His mother, Florence Kivairu can be reached on+254720443237. His father, Joram Kivairu, can be reached
on+254721892416. Please write your cheque or deposit your contribution to HILLARY KARANI KIVAIRU, ACCOUNT NUMBER CA31300003070, NIC Bank, Junction Branch, NAIROBI, KENYA. The phone number for Joram Kivairu is 0721892416.

For any questions, please email me on, or call +256477161200. Alternatively, please call the Jorams' numbers as aforementioned.

Shall I dare further and request you to help us forward this request to as many of your friends who would care to assist this young man live again? Yes, to as many of them as possible, in whichever part of the world... Are there foundations you know that would assist us in funding this operation? Again please let us know...

I personally thank you for your generosity and kindness, as we seek to make this year brighter for Karani.
