Communications Internship
Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is an international non-profit organization that promotes peaceful resolution of conflict. With headquarters in Washington, DC and a European office in Brussels, Belgium, SFCG’s mission is to transform how individuals, organizations, and governments deal with conflict – away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. SFCG seeks to help conflicting parties understand their differences and act on their commonalities. With a total of approximately 400 staff worldwide, SFCG implements projects from 47 offices in 28 countries, including in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. Summary
Search for Common Ground’s Communications Department is seeking an intern for Winter/Spring 2012. The Communications Intern will assist in the design and implementation of many projects, including maintaining Search for Common Ground’s social media presence and website. The Communications Intern will have the opportunity to attend and blog about a wide variety of events in Washington DC, hosted by Search for Common Ground and/or relating to SFCG’s work.
Responsibilities
Social Media
Write and edit contributions to the Common Ground Blog, Twitter and Facebook pages
Follow-up with in-field and DC staff for updates
Take initiative to find new ways of communication conflict transformation to a broad audience
SFCG Website
Participate in web redesign and content analysis
SFCG Outreach Materials
Help to write and design brochures and other outreach materials for country programs. Knowledge of InDesign is helpful.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of and interest in communications
Experience in using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Lunch, StumbleUpon, Digg, YouTube, WordPress, etc). Blogging experience is a plus
Commitment to conflict resolution and or/international relations
Independent worker not needing close supervision
Excellent writing skills
Self-starter; organized; detail-oriented
Good Internet research skills
Solid computer skills including Adobe Creative Suite
