Overview:

The Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) is an international membership organization committed to achieving gender equality, sustainable development and women's human rights. In keeping with AWID’s mission, the Women Human Rights Defenders Strategic Initiative (WHRD SI) aims to strengthen the voice, impact and influence of international, regional and national women’s rights advocates, organizations and movements to respond, resist, denounce and challenge violence against women’s human rights defenders.

Overview of Position:

The Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRD) Program Coordinator is a full-time position and will provide research and programmatic support to the activities of the initiative. The WHRD Program Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of project goals through AWID’s strategies:

Partnerships and alliance-building: Contribute to strengthening the WHRD International Coalition by actively participating in working groups on behalf of AWID and implementing coalition activities (including research projects, joint advocacy efforts, and issuing action alerts)

Knowledge-building and research: Produce educational materials and timely analysis of WHRDs issues; this includes writing short articles and developing materials as well as coordinating research projects for publications

Convening dialogues and strategic conversations: Contribute to sub-regional WHRD processes by implementing activities in the Meso-American initiative (coordinate Meso-American registry of violence against WHRDs, liaison between regional network and international stakeholders), documenting lessons to share with other regions, supporting outreach and planning for new sub-regional convenings

AWID Action: Coordinate AWID responses to urgent alerts regarding WHRDs, working with membership team to develop new tools for engaging our constituency in solidarity actions
The WHRD Program Coordinator reports to the WHRD Manager.

Experience:

4 to 6 years experience:

Facilitating collaborative processes with diverse partners
Conducting research; including collecting, analyzing, presenting data and report-writing
Coordinating advocacy initiatives or influence strategies
Working in a multi-cultural team
Working with non-profit organizations based in the Global South and/or Central and Eastern Europe
We are looking for an individual who is committed to the principles and values of feminism, anti-discrimination, and anti-racism. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and editing skills, good knowledge of research methodologies including statistical and quantitative methods, and have excellent facilitation and coordination skills to be able to bring together diverse groups for joint actions. If you are able to work independently with minimal supervision and have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish, we would love to hear from you!
