About the Partner:
This placement is within the framework of the Education Program’s priority of implementing the Child Friendly Schools Policy and is also the first step in a strategy to integrate National Volunteering into the Program. National volunteering in Cambodia is focused on local community volunteers. This is the beginning of something new – national volunteering in Cambodia- and an exciting opportunity to help shape things for the future. It is an exciting placement as it also offers the chance to be a member of a team continuing the implementation of the “Mainstreaming Inclusive Education” (MIE) project in Cambodia.
The Volunteer's Role:
The overall aim of the placement is to improve community involvement in the education process. This is a two way process - the community supporting the school and the school supporting the community.
The initial focus of the placement will be to establish new Student Support Networks (SSN) in a number of primary and secondary schools. The overall aim of the SSN is to support students to make the transition from primary to secondary school and to improve the achievement of students at the secondary school level.
Skills and Qualifications:
Essential qualifications for this volunteer placement:
Degree in a related field (eg. Social work, education)
At least 3 years experience in community based work with facilitation/teaching experience
Experience in monitoring and evaluation
The volunteer is expected to commit to studying the Khmer language, and will also be working with a part time translator. The volunteer will have the responsibility for the translator’s day to day management.
Training and Financial Support:
Our training and support package covers the costs of being an overseas volunteer, allowing you to enjoy a modest but healthy lifestyle while you volunteer abroad. This includes:
Attendance at a CUSO-VSO assessment day (candidates are expected to cover the first $150 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and accommodation costs).
Travel and accommodation costs associated with five day pre-departure training course held in Ottawa.
Return airfare and visa/permit (this includes a return flight in the case of a family emergency).
Coverage for required vaccinations, medications and health insurance.
Accommodation while overseas.
A modest living allowance, which varies depending on the country where you are placed.
