Offer: Job: Web developer at Freedom House, Washington-DC

Freedom House supports the spread of freedom and democracy throughout the world through research, effective advocacy, and programs directly supporting frontline activists. We are a leader in identifying threats to freedom through our highly regarded analytic reports, including Freedom in the World. With 13 field offices and two U.S. offices, we are supporting the right of every individual to be free.

Position Summary
The Web Developer will manage Freedom House's primary website; develop, test and deliver custom software solutions; provide support for Freedom House affiliated websites and the organization’s contact management system. Tasks of the Web Developer include maintaining and improving the primary Freedom House website and maintaining server infrastructure for the site. The Web Developer will also work with the Design team to assist programs in creating program-specific websites and databases, and provides expertise to the Freedom House staff on Internet issues. In addition, the Web Developer manages regular maintenance and upgrades to Freedom House's contact management system, Salsa, and the organization’s Intranet (built on the SharePoint platform). He/she will report directly to the Operations Director.

Some Duties and Responsibilities

Develop, Test, and Implement new tools and sections for the Freedom House website based on changing needs
Train staff on Freedom House's membership and contacts database(s), and provide technical support, maintenance and upgrades for the database(s)
Assist program staff in creating websites and databases (this can include actually creating the site or database in house, or providing assistance in managing external contractors)
Develop and implement security strategies and procedures for websites with a target audience in nations that heavily censor Internet content
Provide advice and guidance to project proposals that include Internet or database components regarding feasibility and expected costs
Maintain Freedom House's website servers (Windows and Linux)
Provide regular reports on traffic to Freedom House websites
Manage the creation of specialized databases to serve specific programmatic needs
Gather and/or write documentation and policies regarding Freedom House’s main website and all programmatic websites and databases, and provide ongoing technical support to staff working on them
Create and maintain policies and documentation relating to Freedom House's database(s)
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required
Minimum 2 years website programming experience
Demonstrated experience with Drupal, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, PHP, ColdFusion, jQuery, Photoshop, Windows Server and IIS management, and Linux and Apache management required
Familiarity with the deployment of successful Internet security solutions
Excellent communication, including presentation, and people and conflict resolution skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Must demonstrate attention to detail and produce error free work in a fast paced environment
Ability to work effectively to meet set goals in a deadline-driven environment
Strong ability to apply effective organizational and multitasking skills to meet deadlines
Experience or familiarity with SharePoint and Salsa (DemocracyInAction) preferred
