Need: Running a community based website for women support

Dear sisters,

I have an idea to run a community based website for women support here in Italy.
My intention is to create a platform where women can post their stories and require for concrete help by creating a network.
I thought of creating different categories for each topics that may be afforded. Some examples: Motherhood - single mothers-children education-baby sitters an nursery school founding / Work- working opportunities - mobbing / Relationships - domestic violence - stalking / Body - eating disorders - sexual abuse. Women will not only share their stories and find support in other women, but they will also be provided with suggestions on how to deal with their problem, hopefully.

Since I am not sure about the outcome, I would like to ask you, shall I start running a fb group or do you suggest me to run the site right away?
Do you have any suggestions about how to articulate the topics? Is it too ambitious a project?
...I am truly enthusiastic, but I am afraid to do wrong...

Please, consider this as a rough idea, I am open to any suggestion or advice.

Hope to read your comments very soon

Stay blessed

Maria

Hi

Good idea! maybe a blog with different categories and users? is easier to manage for everyone.

One's life has value so long as one attributes value to the life of others, by means of love, friendship, indignation and compassion

Good idea

Dear Maria,

It is a good idea. And as you say, it is a bit ambitious. I don't know about the financial implications of operating a website in Italy. Are you technically qualified to design and run the site or do you have friends to do that? Going by your first assignment, I think you do have the technical knowledge. If you are able to run the site, and if you
have the connections, it would be a good idea to get some expert also on board, so that besides the support / suggestions from web friends, those seeking help can get expert opinion also. May be to start with, you can think of linking up with NGOs addressing these issues, so that women who have benefited from the NGOs can connect through your website. Anonymity that an online platform offers, helps women open up more. Then slowly, through them and through other networking methods, more women are likely to be benefitted.

Exactely what I needed!!
Yeah, fortunately my boyfriend is a webengeneer, so he can do the technical work for me. A web site here in Italy is pretty cheap, and I might get some money through ad. banners on my site. I've also found a name for the web!! As you say, at first, I'll get connected to other women associations, but I think it'll all work on facebook, which is not as functional as a website, but it will give me the chance to actually evaluate the participation of women. I'll then move on a website, this is the idea.
What abou it?
Thank you sooo much for your suggestion!!!

Stay blessed,

Maria

this is great!

Hi Maria,

Im sorry ive seen this so late! I actually think this is a really great idea! You should definitely think seriously about creating a website it would be a great permanent forum for women to participate. I am the founder of a human rights website voiceforhumanrights.org that discusses women's rights and that started as a local project but we now have volunteers all over the world. We would be more than happy to collaborate with you on this project if you are still working on it. Thats great your boyfriend has tech skills you could also think about setting up a blog for the project, wordpress.com offers a great deal of freedom in designing your page. If you would like pls feel free to contact me for more info at ashlybloxon@gmail.com. I have collaborated with quote of bit of people on website organization and design, etc.
