Offer: Research Editor Internships
Femin Ijtihad.
Location: Home-based.
Description:
Femin Ijtihad translates as the 'critical thinking of women's rights in law and practice'. This research initiative aims to increase the physical and linguistic accessibility of academic and activist scholarship on Muslim women's rights to non-governmental organizations, researchers, lawyers and the wider public in post conflict, developing and Muslim societies.
We are currently expanding our personnel to support the ambitions of the project. We are pulling together a team of competent, committed and highly recommended Undergraduate and Masters students with a background in law, anthropology, gender studies, Islamic law, peace and conflict studies, folklore and NGO management.
By being a part of Femin Ijtihad (FI), you will be forefront in providing research work to activists and women's rights organisations who really need them.
Our research will cover the following areas:
A) Gender-equitable interpretations of Islamic law and traditions;
B) Successful forms and strategies of women's resistance in post-conflict, developing and Muslim societies;
C) Legal reforms in Muslim jurisdictions;
D) Folklore that inspire gender-solidarity;
E) Biographies of Muslim women who have excelled in spirituality, business and intellect;
F) Notions of masculinity and the ways in which these notions can be deconstructed in gender-related programs.
As an FI researcher, you will be challenged to address problems in law, strategies of women's resistance and the delivery of women's rights education. You will identify the ways in which theoretical 'solutions' postulated by academics can be assimilated into practical programs currently existing to benefit and protect women. You will attend and participate in discussions to create a coherent plan for organisations to successfully integrate research findings into the approach and content of their work.
Please note that currently all research positions with FI is on an unpaid internship basis. The duration of your work and level of commitment can be discussed with HR after acceptance of your application.
