JOB DESCRIPTION
The Fair Housing Council of Oregon (FHCO) is a nonprofit, civil rights organization driven to eliminate illegal housing discrimination through enforcement and education across Oregon and southwest Washington. We promote equal access to housing by providing education, outreach, technical assistance, and enforcement opportunities specifically related to federal, state, and local fair housing laws. We also work with a number of partners to raise awareness about a variety of housing resources.
The FHCO is currently seeking an Administrative Assistant to support the work of the Education & Outreach (E&O) Department. This position provides a variety of support to the Department including event registration, printing, filing, mailings, database management, manual design, and outreach.

REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work both independently and as a supportive team member
Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate information in an easily understandable
fashion (both written and verbal) appropriate to each given audience
Proficient office and computer skills (copier / scanner / etc. and MS Office Suite [including MS Publisher or comparable design program], Dreamweaver, database management, etc.)
Solid organizational and time management skills, which includes the ability to manage multiple projects with varying timelines,
while maintaining strict deadlines
Strong project prioritization skills and attention to detail
Able to work occasional functions away from the office, including some evenings and weekends
Strong event coordination and logistical skills
Must have vehicle, as assigned activities may require travel and transporting materials and supplies to locations outside the FHCO office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support a variety of other outreach on an ongoing basis (including cold calls, email, staffing tables at community events,
personal visits, etc.)
Coordinate mailings and electronic broadcast messages
Perform scheduling, registration, and requested follow up activities for organization events
Design, layout, and produce materials for E&O projects
Recordkeeping and reporting
Database management

Knowledge and Experience
The successful candidate will need to develop a comprehensive knowledge level on a large amount of information related to housing resources and housing-related civil rights laws. This knowledge will be acquired over a short training period with experienced FHCO staff members. For greater context, study FHCO.org before applying.
Preference will be given to candidates who:
Have previous experience in the housing industry
Have civil rights experience
Are fluent in Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Khmer, Arabic, an African or Pacific Island language OR will be a registered member of a Native American tribe.
