Please help identify NGOs from countries reporting at 49th and 50th CEDAW Sessions cheduled for 11 - 29 July 2011 and (tentatively) for 3 - 21 October 2011.
List of Countries Reporting at the 49th CEDAW Session
The following countries have been scheduled to report at the 49th CEDAW session:
Costa Rica, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Italy, Nepal, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Zambia
List of Countries Reporting at the 50th CEDAW Session
The following countries have been scheduled to report at the 50th CEDAW session:
Chad, Cote d'Ivoire, Kuwait, Lesotho, Mauritius, Montenegro, Oman, Paraguay
IWRAW Asia Pacific would very much appreciate your suggestions of any women’s NGOs from these countries that you feel should be part of the programme and the CEDAW reporting process.
IWRAW Asia Pacific will contact the recommended NGOs to determine whether they are interested in participating in the “From Global to Local” programme and the CEDAW reporting process.
(1) Helps women’s organisations understand the CEDAW reporting process so they can prepare a shadow / alternative report that touches on all of the articles of the CEDAW Convention and use the reporting process to frame their advocacy efforts; and
2) Facilitates the presence of NGO representatives from reporting countries at the CEDAW Sessions to monitor the review of their State parties and to interact with the CEDAW Committee members in order to raise pertinent issues concerning women in their country.
Please note that only NGOs are eligible to participate in “From Global to Local”. IWRAW Asia Pacific has taken the stand that persons that will be on the government delegation to the CEDAW session, or have helped write the government report to the CEDAW Committee should NOT be involved in writing the shadow/alternative report, and are NOT eligible to attend the “From Global to Local” training at the CEDAW Session.
