IDEO.ORG Fellowship Program: Human-centered Design to improve lives of the low-income communities

IDEO, the global design firm in the USA has launched the IDEO.org Fellowship, which brings people with design, business, and social sector backgrounds into IDEO.org for 11-month residency.

Individuals with proven leadership experience in the social sector, business world, or design industry with a passion for improving low-income communities and spreading human-centered design can apply to this opportunity.

In the 11-month residency, the selected fellows or residents will work on poverty related challenges covering an array of topics – such as, agriculture, gender equity, financial services, health, and water and sanitation. Example projects include working with a microfinance institution in Kenya to create new ways for low-income customers to save, supporting a small Indian start-up to design a low-cost electricity system, or partnering with a domestic healthcare non-profit to bring birth control options to low-income women in the U.S.

Although the residents will be based in San Francisco, they will spend significant time traveling and in the field.

Applicants should have at least three years of professional experience, preferably with a master’s degree or equivalent and proficiency in English is a must. Applicants selected from outside of the United States will be assisted with VISA application process.

Applicants are considered for all roles without regard to race, color, religious creed, sex, national origin, citizenship status, age, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, marital, parental, veteran or military status, unfavorable military discharge, or any other status protected by applicable federal, state or local law.

Applications have to be submitted online with other documents and required participation in the OpenIDEO. The deadline to apply to this fellowship is 18 April 2011. For more information, visit the link below.
