Offer: Documentary: “The Women’s Agenda, Kenya/Uganda”
From Development Through Media:
In 1996, the Royal Netherland Embassy enabled us to produce the documentary, “The Women’s Agenda, Kenya/Uganda”. And now, DTM has partnered with Alliance Française to celebrate the International Women’s Day through a series of film/discussion, exhibitions and concerts labelled as the “Festival CulturEles”. The event aims to promote the role of women in artistic creation and advocacy.
This year’s Festival is organized in the framework of the programme “Art Synergies for the Empowerment of Communities”, under the non-state actors project “Vital Voices and Culture: Increasing People Participation in Good Governance and Development”, being implemented by the Ministry of Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs with the support of the European Union.
Through this platform, the “The Women’s Agenda, Kenya/Uganda” The documentary ‘Women’s Agenda’ (1996) by Dommie Yambo-Odotte, winner of the Jury’s Best Documentary Award at the 1996 Southern Africa Film Festival, has been selected as an artistic presentation from which we can endeavour to trace progress towards women’s equality and empowerment in Kenyan and Ugandan societies since the UN Decade for Women and the Beijing Conference for Women. The film will will be screened at 6pm on Mon. 7th March, followed by a discussion “Taking stock of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment as we embark on the African Women’s Decade and await the implementation of Kenya’s new constitution”. You are all invited.
