Offer: $5000 Grant Opportunity for organizations working to make the world more fair for girls...

5 for Fairness is an online community dedicated to fostering fairness for girls around the world. When our members join, they donate a minimum of $5 to our Grant Account. When that account reaches $5000, members propose, evaluate and vote to decide which organization working on behalf of girls, anywhere in the world, we think most deserves a $5000 grant.

Our first grant went to the Panzi Hospital/Harvard Humanitarian Initiative for their work with victims of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Our second grant went to MOSTE (Motivating our Students through Experience) a tiny group mentoring middle school girls in Los Angeles, CA. USA.

We are now ready to give away our third $5000 grant!

Our grant-making process works like this:
1. Our Grant Account reaches $5000. (This is where we are today, 2/4/11)
2. 5 for Fairness members have three to four weeks to create Teams for organizations they believe deserve the $5000 grant.
3. Team leaders and other supporters tell the story of their organization on their Team page using discussion posts, photos and videos. They enlist 5 for Fairness members to "Join" their Team. Members can join as many teams as they like, showing support for multiple organizations they think are worthy of moving into the voting round.
4. The 5 Teams with the most members move to the Voting Round.
5. The community votes.
6. The winning organization gets a check for $5000!

There are only two rules:
First, Team leaders must be volunteers. If you are employed by a nonprofit, you cannot start a Team for it. That said, we welcome employees as members and encourage them to help their volunteer Team leader tell the organization's story most effectively. Second, we must be able to legally give to your organization in compliance with all relevant US laws.

We are about to announce - today in fact! - that our Grant Cycle is beginning and as such are looking for great organizations working on behalf of girls around the world that deserve a $5000 grant.

If you know of an organization you think deserves a 5 for Fairness grant, please let them know about us. Better yet, come join ($5 donation to the NEXT grant required) and start a Team for them yourself.

We are grant-making community, but we are not, by any means, all about the money! Vying for the grant is an excellent chance for small organizations to put their work in front of a group of supporters, advisers, and people who can help them to shape their messaging. These are all people who are interested in your mission. If your story resonates with them, and they join your Team in droves, you'll know you are on the right track with your messaging. If, on the other hand, the group does not respond, you will have a great opportunity to adjust your storytelling to see what works. Think of it as a 345 person focus group that only costs you $5!

I know that the World Pulse community is full of representatives from great organizations doing amazing work. Please pass on this information to anyone you think might be interested and feel free to ask me any questions about how our Grant Process works, either here or on my 5 for Fairness page. You can also give them this link, which is full of information for organizations that might want to start a Team: http://5forfairness.org/notes/FOR_ORGANIZATIONS

Thanks!

Salute you

I'm sad because I know that there are a lot of women need to offer training for the performance of craft Imithnha to generate income for them and their young are .... but I do not know on the organization can provide assistance to them in an orderly and fair .... this is really great work I hope that donors put a lot of controls until they get aid to those who truly deserve without spending

Thank you!

Yes, part of what we try to do is find organizations that provide assistance in a way that is "orderly and fair". The more Teams we have on 5 for Fairness, the more our members can educate ourselves on what we really believes works and support well-designed and effective programs. Thanks for the salute!

It is not too late!

Hi Olutosin:
It is not too late, but we begin the Voting Round on 3/14 so time is of the essence. That said, if STAR does not win the grant this time, it's Team will stay on the site and you can keep on building supporters for the next Grant Cycle!

All the best,

Anna
