Offer: Call for Nominations: WWSF Prize for Women’s Creativity in Rural Life

WWSF PRIZE for women’s creativity in rural life
Deadline 31 March 2011

Dear WWSF Members and Friends,

The Women’s World Summit Foundation celebrates this year its 20th anniversary and cordially invites you to submit nominations for the 2011 special edition of the PRIZE for women’s creativity in rural life, honoring creative and courageous women and women’s organizations around the world working to improve the quality of life in rural communities.

Since inception of the prize program in 1994, 365 Laureates have so far been awarded for their commitment and creativity with a cash donation of US$ 1000 each. All Laureates and their profiles are published on our web site A traveling exposition is giving visibility to all the prize winners and is available at the WWSF Headquarters.

Given your experience, interest and perspective with regard to issues of development, human rights, micro- credit, peace building, eliminating violence and empowerment of women, we greatly appreciate your participation and thank you in advance for sending us your candidates. About 10 prizewinners will again be selected in 2011 and announced to the media on 15 October – International Day of Rural Women.

WWSF wishes to remind you that the United Nations General Assembly (6 November 2007) decided that 15 October is officially proclaimed and observed each year as the UN International Day of Rural Women, which is the result of 13 years of WWSF lobby work on behalf of rural women at the UN. The annual ‘ WWSF Open Letter to rural women of the world’, publish since 1996, is part of our annual global awareness campaign to increase knowledge and empowerment. It is also the Day when the Laureates are honored with the Prize in their respective countries to help increase visibility and support for their programs in rural life.

Your nomination(s), following the guidelines published on line, must arrive no later than 31 March 2011 via the post. Email nominations are no longer accepted.

We take this opportunity of wishing you a most successful New Year and look forward to hearing from you.
