Need: PREVENTING SEXUAL VIOLENCE THROUGH EMPOWERMENT

Hi all, I am so happy to send this post. Stop The Abuse of Rights, our new organization is organizing the first training for women as from January 10, 2011! It is so amazing because two of our Worldpulsarians here have volunteered to be part of the facilitating team; Olutosin Olowoyeye Taiwo and Gemisola Oke, both are facilitating the sessions on Hand/machine knitting and hat and bead making respectively. They are collaborating with us, by spreading the hands of love. We are so glad. Presently, We have forty women and we have been turning others back, till next batch, which we hope will be in July, 2011.

The need for the training came when we were invited for a prevention training for children earlier this year and after the training, the children were asked to write anonymous questions. One of the children wrote that her mother sends her to hawk boiled rice and the only place where she makes the most sales is in a construction site where all the men will fondle her budding breast before they buy her rice, she reported to her mother, who was visibly sad but always encourage her to go back there, sell the rice and rush home, at least the men's hands will not glue to her breast.

We believe that we are contributing our own quota to the lives of these women, we empower them and encourage good people to establish them, sexual abuse of children among the poorest of the poor is most of the times caused by poverty, early marriage, where under aged girls are sold into sex slavery can be curbed when women and children are economically empowered. We will begin to post our products here for others to appreciate and purchase at the end of the training.

As I always write that there are two specific needs of women, both can change the condition and position of women, and they are better tackled together. the needs are practical and strategic. If we train on life skills and there is not change in the living condition, it will be tantamount to a waste of time, energy and resources.

Good intention and attention is paying off, as we encourage our friends to support our organization. Presently, we NEED INFORMATION ABOUT organizations that can donate knitting and sowing machines to our Women empowerment section. We are able to purchase two fairly used machines and we have an old sowing machine that is working well too. Olutosin Olowoyeye Taiwo will also assist with her knitting machine during the training. The training will take place at Ibasa land, a riverine suburb of Satellite town in Lagos.

Thanks as always.

The story of the girl selling

The story of the girl selling the boiled rice left an ache in my heart. If a mother is not ready to protect her girl , how will. And what confidence does the girl have to defend herself when her mother sends her into the claws of these beasts. I wish the girl all the courage and strength so that she is able to save herself.

You are doing good work dear.

Love

Nusrat

You go girl!

Yes, life skills, changing perspectives and options are, in my opinion, the best ingredients for empowerment. I am so happy to be a part of your wonderful work even if from the other side of the planet.

Blessings on all you do. Keep us posted on how it goes.

love and hugs

Thanks Dear Sisterfriend......

It is so easy, I was in Idumota market throughout the day! Buying Guinea brocade, dye, beads, cinamen....I feel so happy that I canc contribute towards setting poor women free. The stress is so much considering the proximity of your house to the venue at Ibasaland, that is taking a Marwa from Abule ADO TO IJEGUN WATERSIDE and then taking a flying boat to Ibasa.....it is risky and far though I love things like this...I would have really love youto learn Adire tie and dye so we continue to empower women.

We have 70 women for Adire instead of 20 women for that class. I dont know what to do, but I believe that if good women like you can learn, we can step down the training for others too..
I know you are a good woman and would love to support, you are always welcome.....SISTER CELINE TOO will attend for few days, and she will come from Ogba. I love my Worldpulse sisters... and I am proud of you all. I believe that if Jensine Larsen, my Amazon is in Nigeria, she will be there to cheer the women. Thanks so much Dear...you are welcome! I wish we have Saturday classes....but we will do another training in July.

I love you well sister.
