The Population Reference Bureau (PRB) in Washington, DC, United States, is inviting senior-level women journalists from developing countries around the world to apply to its Women's Edition programme. Up to 15 women journalists from the print and broadcast media will be selected to become part of this international network of women journalists interested in women's health and development. The programme is designed to provide the journalists with information on reproductive health and development issues, including family planning and safe motherhood, so they can better cover these topics for their media organizations. Participants will attend seminars and study tours around the world. Journalists may write or broadcast in any language; the seminars are in English.
Participants are selected on a competitive basis, and full sponsorships are available. Participation includes commitments to:
1. Participate in the seminars.
2. Publish or produce at least one special report, series of articles, or broadcast programme after each seminar on the issues explored in the seminar.
3. Send to PRB copies of each supplement, series of articles, or broadcast programme immediately after its publication or broadcast.
Application Information
This opportunity is open to women journalists who:
* Hold influential editorial positions - senior-level editors, reporters, and producers - with leading media outlets that have large audiences, such as national and regional newspapers, magazines, and television and radio stations; freelancers can apply but must provide a letter of support from a news organisation indicating that it will publish or broadcast the freelancer's work.
* Reside in a developing region (Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, or the Middle East).
* Demonstrate interest in women's health, development, and population issues and a commitment to covering these topics.
* Have the ability to communicate comfortably and effectively in English during the seminars, though they may write or broadcast in any language.
