Need: Seed funding for Pantry Initiative
The Pantry is an initiative of Widows and Development Support Services providing poor widowed women with entreprenueral capacity for Sustainable Livelihoods. We need $600 as seed funding to set up a small garri processing cottage industry where poor women in grassroots areas can be taught business management and entrepreneural skills using this product to make a living for themselves and their children.
Garri is a staple food made from the cassava plant. Every ethnic group in the country eats cassava processed into a food product one way or the other. The $600 is for the purchase of equipment needed to process the cassava into an edible foodstuff product .
The Pantry initiative is a follow up to the survey on the incidence of widows organized by Widows and Development Support Services; to provide Sustainable Livelihoods for these poor women and their children who have been prey to harmful traditional practices and evil burial rites and cultures that have left them traumatized, displaced, emotionally fragmented and socially incapacitated.
Our target is to stabilize them through local cooperatives, empowering women to sell the processed cassava foodstuff. As they are empowered these women and their children will be strengthened.
