UN-INSTRAW Gender Training for Peacekeepers
Ten years ago, in its landmark Resolution 1325, the United Nations Security Council called for women's full and equal participation in all elements of peacemaking, and for prevention of this kind of sexual violence in war. Implementation of this historic resolution has been too slow.
I was recently involved in an UN - INSTRAW online event that I thought was helpful, allowing dialogue and inter-actions across a wide spectrum. Getting the PeaceKeepers more tuned into the grassroots population in the countries that they serve can go a long way to helping a country coming out of turmoil in a post-conflict stage make more rapid advances.
I want to encourage participants in GLOBAL PULSE to take time to offer your comments, with the aim of helping peacekeepers become more effective and efficient in carrying out their mandates, and when necessary helping to revise mandates to make them more responsive to what a country requires to achieve successful Millennium Development Goal outcomes.
