Need: Seeking Suggestions for Fiscal Sponsorship for Action Kivu
Along with Catherine Haight, I'm the co-director of an organization called Action Kivu, created and run by Amani Mataboro Tom in Congo. We are looking for fiscal sponsorship and wanted to reach out to the members of PulseWire for ideas / suggestions of who might be the best fit for Action Kivu.
Action Kivu was created in 2007 by Amani Matabaro, a Congolese man driven to help victims of the conflict going on around him. The organization is already up and running in Southern Kivu and we are seeking to raise awareness and funds in the United States.
Action Kivu was created to provide some of the Congo's victims of sexual-based violence with the opportunity to rebuild their lives on a foundation of hope, dignity, and economic self-sustenance. Our approach is spearheaded through two programs:
The Kivu Sewing Workshop:
In an eight-month program, students, all victims of the Congo's years of devastating conflict, learn to sew, knit and embroider and eventually acquire the skills and capacity to work on their own as seamstresses who can provide for themselves and their families.
Education Assistance for Children:
Action Kivu works in partnership with primary schools in Congo to fund the education of vulnerable children affected by the ongoing conflict.
Our website, which is in the process of being updated, can me found at this address:
Please let us know any organization you think we could be an ideal match for fiscal sponsorship.
