Local Expert
Jobs — By Graham Master Flash on April 14, 2010 at 3:03 pm

Local Expert Overview

NileGuide seeks web-savvy, social media-loving travel writers to help us create the best and most unique travel content on the Web. In this position you will oversee the destination pages for your location by adding fresh content on a regular basis, including destination overviews, new attractions, and destination-specific blog posts. Your work will not only establish NileGuide as a top site, but also help you build your own reputation as a writer.

NileGuide provides original recommendations on the best things do to when you travel. It combines guidebook information with personalized searches, integrated booking with one-step price comparisons, and the ability to organize all this information into a professional-quality, personalized mini-guide. Users can print their guides, or download to their iPhone using our new ‘Guide To Go’ app. NileGuide lets travelers easily create their own “perfect trips,” which means they save time and, more importantly, have more rewarding travel experiences.

Local Expert Responsibilities

As a Local Expert you will have the opportunity to tell the world what makes your destination a must-see! The more viewers you attract to your site, the more money you make. Activities will vary from reviewing the state of current points of interest, to writing descriptions of points of interest, to adding photos, blogging, using Twitter, and more.

As a NileGuide Local Expert, you must:

■Love to use your stellar writing skills, whether it’s a description about something to do or where to eat, or a blog post about an upcoming festival
■Love your destination and live there – in addition to living in your destination, you much plan to be there for at least one to two additional years; we want a committed team member!
■Be responsive, reliable, and detail-oriented
■Be tech savvy: comfortable with Excel, social media, general web use, and more
■Be an entrepreneurial self-starter needing little direct management
■Be outgoing: create a social presence in online forums such as Twitter and the blogosphere
■Have an excellent command of written English
■Have a college or university degree
Compensation:

Local Experts will receive a monthly retainer of $250 plus traffic and performance-based bonuses for the first two months. After two months, performance will be assessed and Local Experts will move to a traffic-based payment structure. Our expectation is that Local Experts will have the opportunity to earn far more money than current work-for-hire rates.

How to Apply:

Please email your resume and a cover letter explaining why you would make a fantastic local expert for your destination to tyler@nileguide.com. Links to applicable clips of your work are appreciated. Please put “application for local expert ” in the subject of the email. We will respond to qualified candidates only.
