Need: Improving the lives of families through innovation
Savings Loans Association www.sloansassociation is a local organization in Zambia that offers a rare opportunity for families to break their muligenerational poverty through small but effective group Income Initiatives.
SLA belives on the concept of Grameen Foundation that small loans can change the lives of many families, in particular women. Since inception we have helped close to 29 families with small micro grants of about $100-250 and we have seen how the lives have transformed from being poor, marginalized and excluded to a family with increased economic livelihoods.
Our model of support extends above the issuing of small checks or payments to our members. We develop an intimate relationship and offer training and capacity building so that our beneficaries engage in sustainable development programs that takes into consideration the use of our natural resources for many years to come.
Much more still needs to be done as many families have been impacted by poverty and face the challege of looking after their children and meeting other basic needs like putting food on their tables. We ask you to join our initiative by sharing with us any ideas on how you think a group of 5 women from chronic poverty familys can transform their lives in a long and lasting way.
