Offer: 2009 Women's Leadership Intensive Weeks

Ever want to connect with powerful women working for change around the country? Feeling like you'd like to buff up your skills and talents? CODEPINK is hosting three Women's Leadership Intensives at our Pink House in DC this summer. By joining us in DC for a week, you’ll have a hands on daily opportunity to put your passion for peace into action, and learn valuable skills applicable to your whole life!

June 21-27 (Sunday-Saturday): Session will include a workshop on empowered leadership with CODEPINK co-founder Jodie Evans, and occurs during the 43rd annual Folklife Festival, an excellent opportunity for public outreach for peace. The Folklife Festival, is a "rite of cultural democracy", and will be held June 24-28 and July 1-5 on the Mall between the Smithsonians. Plus create a vibrant presence for peace in hearings and Congressional offices on the Hill.

July 2-8 (Thursday-Wednesday): Session will include CODEPINK action at the national Fourth of July parade in DC. Arrive early to help create visuals and plan action, then greet Congress when they return from recess on Monday, July 6. This week also occurs during the Folklife Festival.

July 12-18 (Sunday-Saturday): Session will include CODEPINK actions in Congressional hearings and offices on the Hill.

All weeks include a final night celebration at DC's progressive restaurant, Bus Boys and Poets, with a PINK open mike to showcase the week's work and your new skills!

By joining CODEPINK in DC this summer for a week-long leadership intensive, you’ll have the unique opportunity to live in the CODEPINK Activist House and organize daily peace actions with 15 other activists. You will:

Receive trainings from experienced CODEPINK organizers on how to effectively contact the media, how to plan a successful creative action, how to work effectively with a team and incorporate everyone’s ideas and interests holistically, how to blog and create youtube and photo galleries online, and how to bring CODEPINK’s feisty, audacious spirit and campaigns home to your city.

Hear from experts about the situation in Iraq, the legislative process in Congress, and other hot political topics.

Meet with DC activists and local organization and better understand the way to create a grassroots network, and the local cost of war.

Daily actions in the halls of Congress, in hearings, in representative and senate offices.
Nightly meetings, skill shares, or expert speaker presentations.
Weekly potluck at the CODEPINK house with ally organizations and DC activists.
Most of all, you’ll leave feeling empowered and inspired to be the peacemaker you want to be, and you’ll make valuable relationships with your new pink sisters and peace allies.
When you leave DC, you’ll receive a packet of materials—sample flyers, sign up sheets, and an opportunity to purchase CODEPINK tshirts and gear—to bring CODEPINK to your city. You’ll also get contact info for CODEPINK local organizers in your state so you can keep the momentum going when you return home.

We are able to offer the CODEPINK week-long intensive for $250, which includes your housing and leadership programming. An additional cost of $10 a day for food is due upon arrival to our Pink House Mama, Desiree. Your fee includes housing at the CODEPINK house, and dynamic trainings and actions with experienced CODEPINK staff and volunteers. If you cannot come for the entire week, we encourage you to apply and let us know what dates you are available to attend. Limited assistance is available to cover the programming costs for students and low-income changemakers.
