December 4th 2013, 7:00 pm — 9:30 pm
Location: Mercy Corps Action Center

Tickets are $10 (Regular) and $5 (Students) and can be purchased online through Brown Paper Tickets or directly from the Action Center, by phone (503-896-5747) or in person, during our regular hours (11 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday).

Susan Kieffer is a professor emerita of geology at the University of Illinois, a recipient of a MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant, member of the National Academy of Sciences, and host of a popular blog called Geology in Motion. Her new book, Dynamics of Disaster, disproves the common assumption that each disaster is a singular event. They are, she contends, all connected. Kieffer's book calls out the need for more sophisticated preparation around disaster risk reduction and emergency response, central concerns for Mercy Corps' work around the world.
