Forum: Digital Peace Building, Empowerment and Change

Event Date:
June 1, 2013 - 08:00 - 11:30

Will internet connectedness among peacebuilders bring forth a Peace Spring in Asia?
How can peacebuilders use social media to enhance their work? How does community building via the internet magnify the impact of peacebuilding efforts?

A public forum co-sponsored by the Mindanao Peacebuilding Institute Foundation (MPI) and NewsDesk Asia will tackle these themes in a forum entitled as “Digital Peacebuilding, Empowerment and Change.”

According to Christine Vertucci, MPI Director, the forum will focus on theories and practices of infusing social media into peacebuilding initiatives and its impact in Asia and elsewhere, and it will be held from 8 AM to 11:30 AM, on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Mergrande Ocean Resort, Bago Aplaya, Davao City.

The forum speakers include: Pry Phally Phuong of Building Community Voices (Cambodia); Barsihannor Zuhri Abdullah of the Qasim Mathar Institute (Indonesia); Christy Reed of the University of Manitoba (Canada) and Anthony Ian Cruz of the Movent Inc. (Philippines).

The forum is part of the three-week MPI 2013 Annual Peacebuilding Training, which has been conducted annually for the past 14 years in Davao.
