The International Day, "Girls in ICT" is an initiative, backed up by the Member States of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) , which aims to empower and encourage girls and young women to consider careers in the growing ICT sector. On 25 April 2013, Brussels will host one of the events, co-organised by the European Commission, the European Parliament and the ITU.
GIRLS IN ICT DAY (draft programme)

Venue: Tour & Taxis, Brussels (morning) & European Parliament, Brussels (afternoon)
Note: The morning session will be delivered by partner stakeholder organisations. Around 300 pupils aged 15-18 from the Brussels Region are expected to attend the workshops in the morning session.

Imagine the world in 2050 – a workshop on Digital Futures for boys & girls - DG

11.00 Welcome of the ITU/COM delegation by the Belgian Minister for Scientific Research and a quick tour around to visit the workshops
11.30 – 11.45 A conversation with Hamadoun Touré , Secretary-General, International
Telecommunication Union and Neelie Kroes, Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner in charge of the Digital Agenda

14.00 – 14.15 Tech Needs Girls award ceremony

The hearing will be co-organised by the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and the
Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM). Chaired by Ms Amalia Sartori (ITRE
Chair) and Mr Mikael Gustafsson (FEMM Chair).
