INCREASING ACCESS TO JUSTICE TO REDUCE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN GHANA
the project main objective is to increase awareness of the Domestic Violence Act and to move closer toward its effective implementation so that domestic violence in Ghana will be reduced
to extend the reach of the domestic violence act awareness campaign in assin north in the central region by training 15 new community based legal literacy volunteers. 70%women and 30%men
to support legal literacy volunteers educational activities and increase effectiveness of their public delivery of information by developing educational materials including pictures books (large format with pictures and diagrams) on domestic violence and two related family laws(property , right of spouses and marriage laws) the picture books format is considered most effective due to the high level of illiteracy among the general population
to raise awareness by supporting outreach activities legal literacy volunteers including community durbars (community gatherings ), meetings with person with disabilities , youth and artisans
to foster state and community leaders' support to victims of abuse and discrimination and collaboration between key stakeholder by sensitizing 30 state and non state actors including prosecutors, judges, polices, legal aid workers , traditional rulers and opinion leaders , religious leaders and other NGO's in the religion where the legal literacy volunteers are being trained,
to develop a better understanding of how the law is being interpreted and implemented by underlying five initial domestic violence cases brought forward under the new domestic violence act and with the support of an external consultant,
to assist in establishing new court watch programs in the country and abroad by developing and disseminating a court watch guide / manual s to NGO's
