Women, Theater & War in Iraq

Join the World Affairs Council for panel discussion and audience conversation with five women theater artists from Iraq on the social reality of the woman artist in Iraq, the current cultural climate and challenges to creative freedom, and theater’s role in giving voice to struggle and survival. The panel, featuring a mix of playwrights, actors, directors, filmmakers – Azhaar Ali Hussein, Kholod Jabbar Obeid Mary Al-Amiri, Hayat Haidar Mohammed Ali, Hawar Sharif, Alaa Najim Abdullah – will offer an eye-opening look at the risks and day-to-day picture of art-making, women’s rights within both Islamic society and in the face of ongoing war.
