A New Voice for Israel: Jeremy Ben-Ami, Director of J Street

Event Date:
October 23, 2011 - 19:00 - 20:30

Emotions run high when it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the role of the United States in helping to resolve it. Jeremy Ben-Ami, J Street founder and former policy advisory to President Clinton, makes a compelling argument for why Israel needs to have an alternative Jewish voice in Washington that might reform American policy and bring about a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine stalemate. Ben-Ami outlines how our current policies towards Israel are largely based on a handful of assumptions that do not hold up against the current realities and how there is an urgent need for a pro-Israel agenda that includes compromise and engagement with the opposition. Ben-Ami’s prescriptive direction for both American policy and conversation within the American Jewish community, was described recently by the New York Times’ Nicholas Kristof as, “a clarion call for American reasonableness in the Middle East.”
