INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY-READING TENT EVENT
International Literacy Day was established in 1965 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and is celebrated around the world each year on September 8.
International Literacy Day aims to raise awareness of literacy issues around the world. From the potential closure of your local library to the desperate shortage of good quality, relevant books in Africa, literacy is an issue which affects us all
Reading tent is an initiative by ORPHSWIV CBO whose philosophy on literacy is that books still matter and its goal is to promote education, literacy and a positive reading culture through projects such as mobile reading tents, books sacks and boxes for rural villages. We believe that every child and adult should have the opportunity to pick up a book and read.
This initiative will provide resources for learning and promote awareness and understanding on importance of a literate society. It is dedicated to increasing access to reading material and other information in rural villages. It also serves as a public space where people meet for discussion and exchange information and ideas. We hope free access to inspiring reading material will help the future generations find their own paths in life.
