The Sustainable Economies Center of Innovation at the U.S. Institute of Peace is hosting this online conference which began on March 14, 2011. The conference builds off of a set of meetings of the Business and Peace Taskforce, which was created by the U.S. Institute of Peace in partnership with George Washington University's Institute for Corporate Responsibility to develop clear and effective strategies that align business activity in fragile/conflict-affected regions with sustained efforts to promote lasting peace. The Business and Peace Taskforce has drafted issue-summary papers based on three research questions:
How do we understand the business-peace nexus?
How do businesses overcome specific challenges in conflict-affected environments?
How do we create a level playing field for businesses in conflict-affected regions/countries?
We are posting these issue-summary papers online and soliciting comments, discussions and recommendations from taskforce members as well as the online INEC community. Each question will be the focus of discussion for three days. All in all the conference will go from March 14, 2011 through March 25, 2011. The discussion will be the basis for the Business and Peace taskforce’s second round of meetings in April.
