Education remains an exceptional challenge, no country today can succeed and progress without it. Is a key factor in fighting against extreme Poverty and Hunger. It is out of this that the Young Feminist Leaders in collaboration with the University of the Western Cape, Cape Town South Africa took part in the Global Campaign for Education. They join others around the world in the Big Read to make sure everyone gets the chance to learn to read and write.

The good news is that the campaign will go on from mouth to mouth with greater intensity and urgency than ever before.

To the community in which it was organized, the day was just sensational and phenomenon. They came in their numbers in spite of the bad weather. We are therefore immeasurably grateful to all who made it possible for the young feminist.

The campaign was organized by Women Business Center, the young feminist leaders in conjuction with the University of the Western Cape.

Below are some of the pictures and the speeches.

Thank you

Your contributions to your community are so vital and appreciated. Perhaps you could summarize what you feel were the key points to come out of the conference, as well as success stories and ongoing obstacles. I am sure many members would benefit from the collected wisdom of the conference but also, may be able to provide insight into overcoming some of the hurdles faced by the community members you serve. Thank you again for the wonderful work you do to advance women's empowerment.

Thank you

Thank you so much Janice for your kind words. I really appreciate that. As Goal 3 of the Young Feminist in Action Programme states “to identify key actions required to align, intensify and broaden efforts country wide so as to maximize synergies and more effectively use of “movement” to educate more women about their rights, talents, skills and passion, the conference was to mobilise maximum support for Adult and Youth Literacy and Lifelong Learning for overall development of women.

Our aim is to make education free and compulsory for every girl child and the establishment of more adult’s literary centres with scholarships throughout the country or, at least scrap off tuition fees so that parents could afford to send their girl child to school.

This is the first of many steps toward invigorated educational campaign and we are glad to be affiliated with the effort of University of the Western Cape. This is a big success to us as they have pledge to support most of our women and we look forward to a continued successful implementation of it.

However, we have to overcome some teething problems. There are dark clouds making our work difficult. We need resources and international exposure especially for the young feminist team who have dedicated all their time and effort to empower young women in their community.

This conference was put together from our own pockets and as Thembi indicated in her speech, they experienced a number of setbacks, which adversely affect their performances and expectations.

The full speech and pictures could be found at our social network set to respond to the needs of women.

They have completed the full research on Women and HIV/AIDS and a copy could be sent to you on request.

Thank you.
