My passion!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the team at PulseWire for creating such a wonderful platform to honor women worldwide as we all come together to share our stories and learn from each other. What a wonderful idea! I am truly thrilled to be part of this dynamic online community and I am looking forward to learning more from everyone.

A little bit about myself: I am originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I am currently operating a microfinance organization (First Step Initiative)whose mission is to empower the world’s poorest individuals to lift themselves out of poverty with dignity through access to capital, training and information. I am very passionate about our work in the Congo because I learn a lot from the women we work with. I will be sharing some of the stories on this journal and I hope that one day, they too will be able to join PulseWire and share their own stories. I look forward to this journey! And to learn more about our work, please visit us at www.firststepinitiative.org.

Hello Chingwell,

Thrilled to meet you - and I hope we can work together immediately! I will go to your website now and may call you Monday. I have been focusing a lot on DRC and hope to help set up a multiservice center for survivors of sexual violence in Goma - a project I plan to discuss with some NGO leaders in Goma in January when I am next headed over. The groups I work with now in DRC are looking for IG projects and training so let's see how I can support your groups with the resources I have to offer (trainings, trauma counseling, model HIV treatment) based on the work I have done with the project I set up four years ago in Rwanda (WE-ACTx - www.we-actx.org).

I feel equally passionate about helping to bring concrete services to the DRC women. I imagine you know that V-Day is also hoping to set up a 'City of Joy' in Bukavu. Their project, like the one I envision, would include income-generation training. So I know we have a lot to share.

I go to DRC on Jan 18 for two days, based on my current plan. I hope among other things to bring concrete things like, for example, colostomy bags to the fistula clniic at DOCS Heal. So I'd love to talk about the kinds of services needed by your groups.

Again, so pleased to meet you.

How exciting to see

How exciting to see PulseWire in action!

Thank you so much for taking the time to introduce yourself and your organization. I am looking forward to reading your journal and learning of the work you have been doing and the women you have met. And of course it will be fantastic to get those women on the site too, when they are able!

Thank you again for making it to the site and making this first post. I can't wait to follow your journal and see what develops!

We're So Lucky

To have you join us, Chingwell!!
I can't wait to follow as your dreams unfold. And the day that the brave women you serve in the Congo will be able to speak for themselves to our community as well. Thank you for your incredible work and passion on behalf of all of us.

Hello Chingwell,

As we spoke recently by phone, I wanted to let you (and the PWire community) know that I have succeeded in getting some donations of surgical materials (colostomy bags, sutures) for the Docs Heal clinic in Goma and hope to make this delivery soon. I am headed over to Nairobi first, where I am excited to meet with Auma - a PulseWire member. We'll do a workshop with members of her community who are traveling by bus from rural Kenya to meet with us. I'll be going over with Louise Binder, an ICW member who is also on PWire, or plans to be soon. From there to Kigali, where I'll meet with Pacifique (also on PulseWire), and then to Goma.

Throughout this trip, I'll share any info I have related to microfinance, so let's try to touch base this week. I leave next Monday (the 7th).

Cheers, Anne-christine
