removing the romance from Piracy

I am sure quite a number of us grew up watching movies or reading books that succeeded in describing Pirates as muscular guys who wore eye-patches as they toured the world while engaging in one adventure or the other but no thanks to the recent activities off the coast of Somalia, our eyes have been sadly opened to see the viciousness and desperation of this venture. Since the War that took place in Somalia the society has degenerated. The locals are being threatened by the twin problem of corruption and violence. Once again negligence by the local and foreign communities have led to these unfavourable conditions.

I know

I have always loved pirate stories like the Treasure Island and the Pirates of the Carribeans movies. However, nothing about these Somali pirates remotely amuses me.
