Introducing myself and my journal: Fund raising through digital assets
In my country Kenya, girls miss up to five days of school due to lack of sanitary towels. The cost of sanitary towels is beyond the means of most families. Rugs, old towels and sponges are just some of the improvised versions of sanitary towels used by girls. It is against this back drop that I founded the Imana Initiative which distributes sanitary towels to disadvantaged girls. We also sponsor needy students by providing by paying for their school fees and up keep.
Fulfilling our goals is a financially intensive undertaking. So far, the internet has been a vital tool for the organization. We have raised substantial funds over the years through social media platforms. We have sourced for volunteers and obtained donations from sponsors beyond the confines of the Kenyan borders as a result of having access to the internet.
Our organization is also keen on shifting attitudes in society regarding menstruation. We use our platforms on the internet to educate and raise awareness. We shatter myths. We correct perceptions. We empower women who in turn, empower others. We have gotten in touch with you, at World Pulse as a result of having access to the internet. We have interacted with women in the same field over the internet.
Currently, we are sponsoring eight high school students. We are keen on doing much more as the digital space expands and offers more opportunities for us.
