RE: Empowering Girls in Uganda with IT skills

Uganda with a population of over 34.5 million people majority being women and young girls has to come to terms that for the country to spur socioeconomic transformation, girls in and out of school need to be empowered with IT skills as a sure way of making them become agents of change in society in order to cause economic change. its on this premises that Commonwealth Peoples’ Association of Uganda (CPAUG) with technical support from ITU and financial support from the Uganda Government through the Uganda Communications Commission host the annual Girls in ICT day to create awareness about the benefits of ICT4D towards women's empowerment since 2012.

The roadmap to the 10th anniversary of Commonwealth Peoples’ Association of Uganda (CPAUG) in June 2015 since its founding in 2005 will be used to take stock of the country's investments in women and girls through ICT4D to align it to the ITU@150 and come out with key strategic country interventions that will make them (women & girls) IT compliant by 2040 the country's VISION target date.

Women and girls are key in unlocking the country's development challenges and ICT4D can be used as a motivator towards their human growth and prosperity.

Lets make this happen as our 10th Anniversary theme states: “Unlocking Youth Potential through ICT towards a Transformed Society”

Government

It is good that government is a partner that pools in resources financially so the work can be done cooperatively together and greater awareness is created.
