3RD PHASE: DIGITAL EMPOWEREMENT: WOMEN WEAVE THE WEB

dd.jpg

I thank the World Pulse Committee in this great idea of considering the Women and Girls on DIGITAL EMPOWERMENT GLOBALLY. As we all know that educating a woman is educating the whole family and the whole World at large.

The wisdom of Grassroots Women Leaders on how the Internet can support groundbreaking initiatives to generate positive change for communities grobally is by working on the following;

* The Women Leaders should be simple, approachable, kind, social and loving in order to win Community Women at the Grassroots Level due to poverty most of them are depressed, frustrated in life.

* Majority of Girls are Primary School drop-outs due to poverty they become single mothers at the age of 15yrs.

*Secondary School drop-outs and Form iv leavers they don't go beyond that i.e College, Universities. so they also become mothers since they are idle and as you know idle minds are the devils Workshop. They wash other peoples clothes for as less as Kshs 200 for their basic needs when they don't get the job, they engage in bad companies or they are employed in Clubs, as Waiters they end up infected with HIV and Aids.

DIGITAL EMPOWERMENT.

First and Foremost, The Women Leaders at the Grassroots level should be Computer literate,

*So through The World Pulse, I would Organize Seminars, Activities or a Beauty Contest Girls and also women on different days.So while doing these Activities, the woman Leader should have a Computer, be able to browse on the INTERNET Website and show women how business goes on online.

*That, one is able to communicate with people online all over the World. Myself am Computer literate so I would be able to show them an email that was emailed to me from US by the World Pulse friend who asked me to print that email and and go attend an Internet Global Forum ( IGF) which was held at UNEP, GILGIL Kenya. I did as I was instructed and i was able to attend that Forum (5days). So, if I was not Computer literate, I could not have attended that Forum whereby I met so many delegates from all over the World and some game me their Contacts.

*The Women Leaders should be in charge and The World Pulse Directors should introduce her to UN Women in order to cooperate properly in DIGITAL EMPOWERMENT at the Grassroots level.
* Purchase Computers

*T.O.T to train

*A room should be rented as a Library whereby the Computers should be kept for
'Computer Basic Skills Training" for Women and Girls.

*In a Government where there is DEVOLUTION at County Levels like in our Country Kenya. The National Government and County Government should chip in to be involved in DIGITAL EMPOWERMENT for Women and Girls in that Community. They should be introduced to the Women Leaders who have been the Vocal point in the WORLD PULSE and in that Community so that they don't hijack the Program and refuse to recognize the Woman Leader of that Community who has been the Vocal made it possible and allocate it to their friends.

*Women who might not be able to learn Computer due to age or eyes (problem). They should be encouraged to weave Baskets, make beads, Mats. Wood crafts be shown how to make a Photo of the items, scan and sell them online (INTERNET. We should open an email for them in order to deal with their business individually. They can also do it in a GROUP. Myself, I coordinate a People with Special Needs Group on Saturdays some of them them weave baskets. So, through Digital Empowerment they can be able to sell and have an INCOME GENERATING ACTIVITTY.

This time round, I hope my needy Community will benefit with DIGITAL EMPOWERMENT.

Thank you for the input!

Thank you for your initiative to explore the infinite possibilities you have on the World Pulse, the platform where you will develop network with the women leaders around the world similarly searching the way to explore the possibilities by empowering and supporting.

I am one who has gone many extra miles to put my thoughts into words so that I can communicate with those likeminded individuals around the world. Though it was not easy, because I dealt with issues no one dealt with, my possession was stolen in Nigeria and came back without driver's lisence, past two years I spent only in the house, not even was able to drive. I am confined to where I am and I am building my NGO in distant country like Japan. Most of my associates are located in Nigeria and U.S. We communicate every week on line. It was possible because I am empowered and energized by the network through World Pulse, and those who listened to me without knowing me. Without stepping out the house, I raised money and built network all over Nigeria. So now I know ANYTHING is possible.

Let me know anything I can do to help you with.

DIGITAL EMPOWEREMENT

Hi Madam Hideko,

I appreciate so much your email. You are courageous, your kind words will continue motivating me as I try to assist my poor Community online through World Pulse.

I have so many challenges because I try to assist the most vulnerable. e,g the disabled, aged, abused children and the Youth drug addicts (Alcohol and drug Abuse),

I Coordinate a Disabled group whereby i assist them to get WheelChairs, food and other assistance.

I have six of them I have managed to visit the District Gender Office and they are now in the Government Program of Cash Transfer whereby they are entitled to get Kshs 2.000 every month also the aged who are eight (8) who also get the same.

They are so many but i have managed only those few. They are about 300 older persons. Please food especially for the aged and Disabled is the help i would like most.

Next time when I visit the Cyber, I will scan and email a photo of a Boy who is 4yrs he is blind and deaf from a desperate mother. She got a Special School for the son but she could not afford the fee. The Boy is desperate his blind eyes protrudes outside, so scaring. Please. any assistance for the boy either those eyes at least doctors through you people can find away of either operating on those protruding eyes.

Whenever I think of that boy i feel so sorry for the young mother and am helpless.

Thanks Madam. GOD bless you as you continue to assist HIS vulnerable people. Amen.

Let me share with you

I see you are in need of many things. I agree that I need many things too. Though let me share with you how I have done under very seriously restricted conditions. It all boils down to the power of persuasion and how much you believe in it. There are many nay-sayers all around, you can say, just about all. You need to feel numb to these negatives. You become what you believe after you continue to put efforts into believing. "Believing" or Faith have enormous power, far more than most people think. Unfortunately many people do not see its power because you cannot physically "see" but give up becaue others tell them to do so. At first it may seem difficult but later it becomes easy.

First, build relationship with the above and second, start believing.

Thanks for listening.

Thank you Cali gal Michelle

I am humbled to know many individuals fighting to make things better giving me empowerment that I am not alone on this planet to suffer. There are many things I can do under severely restricted circumstances with the touch of keyboard. Though I say, after all it takes much of WILL power to make it happen. It is not materials. Thank you for listening and God bless you.

Teresa-
Thank you for sharing your story with us. I wanted to highlight the fact that you identified problems and challenges, but also gave points of action that can address these challenges. Most of us are good at seeing problems, but writing solutions can be hard to do. And sometimes those solutions do not work out as we intended, so we need to be persistent in our efforts.

Thank you for being an example to us all.

Thanks for responding

Madam Michelle,

Thanks for responding and giving the idea of one has to be persistent in our efforts.

Remember there are those who would like to be persistent but they lack either Computer or Mobile, Internet connection and even money to visit a Commercial private Cyber Cafe. So, most of us face so many challenges in trying to write Journals and Communicating online in order to be Vocal, Voices of the most poorest at the grass root level..

Hello Teresa - I loved how you zeroed in on this fact: "First and Foremost, The Women Leaders at the Grassroots level should be Computer literate". That is a basic need in today's world if voices are to be heard. If the leaders are computer literate, they can pass their expertise to other women on the ground who can take it to the masses. You stated some very real challenges and offered some solutions, but as you mentioned, the need is great and the resources are few. My thoughts and prayers are with you, especially as you serve the special needs community in your county.

In love and peace,
Terry

APPRECIATION:

Hi Terry,

I appreciate so much your email, it has really motivated me, I will be able to continue with my Volunteering in order to help the destitute in my community. Networking gives us hope especially the Community Leaders who have written Journals over the years for the sake of their desperate/hopeless Community and nothing seems to happen. Together we will make it.

May GOD bless you and may you continue to give others hope as you have done to me. Amen.

Digital Empowerment

What a lively discussion going on here at World Pulse and you are getting so much great advice about empowering women around the world. I applaud your efforts. Certainly, it is not easy and takes a strong, long-term commitment. I am not sure if I could do it myself.

I do like how you mentioned that you will be reaching out to those women who might not be able to learn the computer due to their age or limited eyesight. They too have a place and can learn new technologies. Good luck!
