VOF Week 3: (Defeating Challenges of Blogging)

Blog is a place where we can put our original view through a web site, encourage and support each other by commenting and making the world a global community. It is also a best way to find solutions by asking questions to our readers. I have a blog in word press named Changing Hands (http://auwstudentsactivities.wordpress.com/ ). I was so excited to write in the blog and I joined it but it was challenging for me to continue then I stopped writing on it.

One of the greatest challenge, I faced as a blogger is finding my readers. I spent most of my free time in our university’s computer lab and go to bed late night after finishing my study. I used to post my poem but didn’t find my readers. It was really frustrating because I didn’t get any feedback. I thought my hardworking was a waste of time. There was not a single person to hear and encourage me. I didn’t find any reason to maintain blogging.

Blogging requires a lot of time which was very difficult to continue. It had been 3 months; I have not updated my blogs. Being a scholarship student in AUW, time is precious to me because I need to focus in my study. I was in dilemma to stop my blogging because I didn’t get support from my readers. In addition, everyone can comment in Word Press blogs. Finally, I got two negative feedbacks which also discouraged me to stop blogging.

I found my readers after joining world pulse. I started blogging and commenting in other blogs. After I started commenting in other blogs, I found my readers. They encourage and support me but now it’s very difficult to separate time to my blog. Currently, in our University, we have three hours computer slot timing per student from 3pm to 11pm. In that short time, I need to do my University assignment, update my blogs, write journals and support each other by commenting.

I set up a solution to defeat the present challenges of blogging. I started to set a time schedule for my blog post and university’s assignment. In addition, I spend my snack and tea time in blogging. I outline my journal in a paper so that I do not have to spend much time thinking about my journal in front of computer. I found outline as a best way to save time. Furthermore, I didn’t get negative feedback from my readers. World pulse provide compulsory user login to comment on our blogs which has less chance to get negative feedback.

In the future, as the number of my reader increases, I would have to face more challenge to commit my time in blogging. I will be prepared for that, and never give up my blogging. After a long time, I have succeeded, and will keep trying. I will search an alternative way to utilize my free time. My readers’ motivation will never let me give up my work.

So glad you stuck with blogging

Sunita, I am so glad that you found us as your voice has provoked much discussion and thought. Without you blogging, so many of us would be ignorant about the true challenges facing Nepalis and women specifically in your country. Although you may not always receive comments, it is clear that your posts are being read and absorbed. Your Journey of My Life post has almost 300 reads which is incredible. I love how you have approached your blogging computer time, setting down your ideas first and then writing them, once your thoughts have solidified.

Do not despair too much over negative comments but realize that they too provide valuable feedback, in that you learn how others view issues. You become more sensitive to learning how to write so that you reach those people too. Often that takes time but presenting a good argument that makes someone with an opposing view sit up and listen is a powerful tool. I eagerly await to read your next journal entry and know that with each one, your audience grows and learns with you. Best wishes,
Janice

I will keep writing......

Dear Jenice,
I don't have words to express how much happy I am after reading your comments. I can't imagine 300 readers read my life post. Wow!!! I would keep writing about the situation of Nepal. Jenice I appreciate positive as well as negative comments but the comment I received from my previous blog was personal and rude word. I will write my another life post very soon. I promise I will submit till Saturday. Hahahha
Thank you for your inspiring words.

Just remember that those type of comments are a reflection of the writer and not of you. We love hearing your thoughts on PulseWire as they make us sit and think about where we stand on certain issues. Looking forward to reading your new post on Saturday!!!!! Actually no pressure as your words should flow naturally form the heart, not because of some arbitrary timeline. We'll eagerly await, no matter when you post.

Dear Sunita;

I cannot believe how active you are able to be on the internet and how responsive you are to everyone's comments-that is a real accomplishment.

I wanted you to know that I have tried to publish a book for quite a few years and have received some negative feedback, some silence and some substantial encouragement but no publisher yet. Somehow believing in yourself and what you need to say has to come full force into your life so that you can not let anyone drag you down. I am still working on that and I support you in doing so as well. Thank you for sharing your experiences in blogging.

Best Wishes-
Daryn

in response

Dear Sunita;
My book is a collection of black and white photographs of pregnant women in their home enviroments accompanied by their writings regarding what this bridge crossing is like-going from an individual being into motherhood.

In regards to not getting it published yet-in the United States there is a whole web of procedures to go through to even get your book proposal in front of the eyes of a publisher. I made it quite a distance but because I was not a famous photographer, it made it very hard to find someone willing to publish my book. To publish a photography book by one's self costs a great deal of money.In the meantime, I have shown my work in galleries, midwivery conferences, juried shows and even have a few photographs up in a marternity wing of a hospital which they purchased from me for the permanent collection. I have had to realize that although my first dream has not become a reality-publishing a book- the journey I have been on has been unexpected and very enriching.

Best Wishes-
Daryn
