supporting economic Empowerment through the WEB

Rebuild sdakubva is a non profit making organisation that works in the poorest neighbourhood of Sakubva.Currently women in Sakubva have no access to the internet due to lack of resources, limited or poor knowledge of the web as well as low literacy levels. The currently economic situation in the country has led most women to live from hand to mouth. Some of the women have even resorted to negative coping mechanisms in order to survive and this is leading to high HIV infection rates as well as divorce and suicides. Rebuild Sakubva has encouraged women to engage in positive income generating projects which they are publishing on the internet so that the women can also access international markets. So far 10 women groups have been identified, their stories documented and brochures made.Everyday the women visit rebuild Sakubva offices for a chance to get feedback on their products since their work has been published on Rebuild Sakubva website as well as on Rebuild Sakubva Facebook page.
To date Rebuild Sakubva has Simudziranai group which does embroidery work, crotchet and batik products. They also have another group that makes fruit juices.Another womens group does marketing for local companies products by doing embroidery work of the products. All these groups have been put up on the internet. So far inquiries have been made from as far as New Zealand,UK,German and other towns and cities in Zimbabwe and these are people who have seen the products on internet. The women are so excited because some of them have even been identified by people in the UK who were once neighbours.Having their products on internet has also built in them the zeal to learn more about the web and its advantages
Rebuild Sakubva will keep working with more women's groups and bring visibility to their work.More information can be found on

Thank you Nabiye

Dear Nabiye
Thank you so much for this. You have no idea how much you have also contributed to this project.Today we had a 45 minute talk with our staff who were complaining that some of the women are afraid of using the mouse and "they waste time".I took time to explain to them why they need patience and why the women are afraid.Tommorrow l will show them your response just to encourage them to keep up and keep on working with these women. Its not easy but it pays off in the end.The smiles, the thank-yous,the commitment these women have keeps me going everyday. I am currently trying to raise 1125 pounds to pay for shipping of 25 laptops from ComputerAid so that we can set up a real computer centre for them. One day, just one day l know we will do this.

Empowerment Through the Web

Dear Pushpa
Thank you for such an encouraging message. We hope that by the year 2015 we would be able to establish at least 4 computer centres in Sakubva. It is amazing how many women now want to be part of this drive. We have managed to get 25 laptops from ComputerAid but we need to raise funds for shipping and handling.Soon we will be singing and posting computer success stories from Sakubva. Sometimes l tell myself that l am only dreaming but the realities of the day bring me back to earth when a woman comes to our office and says thank you.Yesterday l had another group of women who are over 45 years of age. When it was time to say goodbye, one of them refused to shake my hand and instead she asked for a hug.In her own words she said"i want the blessings to flow from you to me so that one day l will be able to do things the way you do them".One amazing factor also is how these women always remember to thank God over this new reality.

so thank you Pushpa.Your message really uplifts my spirit.
