My Friend Judy's "Save Our Oceans" Paintings on Silk

Those who know me are aware that I am all about art and help the artists in my community with new websites, maintenance on their existing sites, and with computer, social media and Photoshop editing skills. Judy is one of my clients - I maintain her website and she is a member of my regional artist promotion website, www.soartists.com. I also serve on the board of the small art center "Art Presence" in my town.

Judy was born and raised in Hawaii. Her father was a photographer and taught her much about the life and species in Hawaii, and instilled in her the values that made her who she is today - a beautiful, caring woman, a wonderful artist, and a compassionate friend to many. I stopped by Art Presence the other day as the artists were hanging their new works for the month and it was a good thing I brought my camera because she had a number of new works she wanted me to photograph. They were all beautiful, but her new series "Save Our Oceans" shows me a new development in her work. She had never used it for activism before, and not only is it some of the most beautiful work I've seen from her yet, I was impressed with her first venture in this direction.

In her introduction, she states:
We need to be more mindful of things that are thrown into our oceans and sea life that are endangered! “Plastics in particular are a threat to vanishing marine species and their fragile habitats – more damaging than climate change! As oceans teeter on the brink of irrevocable decline, they send a message to humanity,... your health and well-being may also be at risk.” (“Plastic Ocean”, by Capt. Charles Moore)

But it's her silk paintings that really tell us how she feels. Please click the images to view a larger version, then mouse over to reveal the "Next" button and click through the sequence of all six images.

Judy also makes beautiful handsewn kimonos and Japanese Happi coats. If you would like to contact her about permission to use her art images in conjunction with an environmental activism campaign, you can contact me or visit her website Dragonfly Designs West her Facebook page, or her Etsy site

encouraging post !

Dear Hannah, this is an encouraging post - not only to Judy, but, the rest of us who continue to learn and manifest from such dynamic strengths in this community at Pulse. The art shown here is significant to open new visions to discourse societal issues. We are living in a time where our Earth is being devoured by the greedy two-legged creatures (humans !), thus, the paintings depict an important dialogue on environment.
It is superb that you have posted Judy's work here -- thank you for sharing ! Sorry I have not come around as yet to visit your writings - just stopped at yours and Soumya's sites today ! Please bear with me.
Love and light.

Cheers,
Shaheen

Dear Shaheen, thank you for

Dear Shaheen, thank you for your kind words! I hope to post more about the power and importance of art as a component of any type of activism so all our World Pulse sisters can include it in their own efforts. Yes, our poor planet is suffering terribly. I remember often a moment I had as a child. I was alone in the house, and it was so still and quiet, I could see the dust motes floating in the shafts on sunshine streaming through the curtains in the living room. As I watched them, mesmerized, I heard a voice speaking to me. She showed me many things, whales and dolphins, all the abundance of the earth. Then she apologized, saying "I am growing tired and worn out. I want to let you know that I may not be able to provide for you as I have the many generations that came before you. My child, I hope you will understand that it is not because I don't love you that this is happening. It is because I love you that I am telling you now, so you will not be surprised as you see these things happening." And I realized it was the voice of the Earth herself speaking to me. It was a heartbreaking, unforgettable moment that has remained with me for over 40 years.

There is no rush for you to read my writings! I became very busy with work myself last week - it happened rather suddenly, and now I will be starting a big project for a local nonprofit that will keep me occupied for a few weeks, so I might not be able to read as much as I'd like for a while myself.
