A CLICK AWAY TO WORLD PULSE COMMUNITY
At the first meeting of our women meeting in Port Harcourt, I introduced them to a 10 minutes practical session of getting connected to the internet through with their phones. We looked at the many functions of mobile phones and how to get connected to the outside world by the use of their phones. We actually go connected to the internet by buying little mobile data and getting started on how to connect to World pulse community. We also had on laptop in place.
We got introduced to how to buy data plan; how to get connected to the internet and how to connect or get registered with world pulse online community. They were meant to bring out their phones and hold them in their hands while I went round showing them what they are expected to do.
At the end of our time, they were happy of the short workshop and practice as they got more knowledgable about the functions of their phones and how to apply some of the icons. They really expressed their joy as two women took their turns in short speeches. Though some already knew how to get connected but learnt of the work and role world pulse on line community plays in the life of women across the globe. They understood that women in other parts of the world are telling their everyday stories from their domestic lives to work, religious and social activities, so they were encouraged to share their expectations, difficulties and joy with other women.
The constraint we had was time and a lot of we're not literate enough to grasp the other uses of phone aside from making & answering calls.
My main challenge is how to get these other women who are not literate enough to learn the use of internet and how to tell their stories themselves.
