VOF Week 2: (THIS IS MY STORY…..WHAT IS YOURS?)

My journey began as I sat down and watched a television program that show cased the suffering and ordeal that the women of Congo were going through. The show focused upon the systemic rape of women in the Congo. I will never forget the expressions on the women’s faces, the sense of helplessness, the numbness in their face and their eyes.

Throughout the interviews the women hardly spoke a word, they were traumatized. I wondered as I sat and watched their interviews, is anyone watching, is anyone listening, is anyone out there, how can we help? In my life I have never felt so helpless.

My mum has always said I was an extremely sensitive child I believe I am that way for a reason, it is my indicator that I am meant to ACT. I am supposed to do something with those feelings-use it in a productive way. I immediately thought I want to be the voice for the voiceless, I want to be able to convey to the world what people are going through. I knew straight away that the media was a great tool. I just did not know how to tap into it.

One of my goals has always been to start my own magazine, a magazine that would appeal to the wider audience and offer a source of hope and inspiration.. The only issue is that I always talked myself out of it, thinking, I can’t do it, who will want to listen to me, how will I go about getting it started, I don’t have the experience. Nevertheless I started off by having a blog……I find it so difficult to keep it going, getting my voice heard out on the web is such an obstacle for me simply because there are millions of blogs out there seeking to be heard too.

Opportunity is always knocking and this time it knocked my way with World Pulse….it aligned with my goals and vision of what I was seeking to achieve, which is being able to ensure the people out there listen to the voices that matter. This is exactly the kind of challenge I needed to get me going. With World Pulse I have an audience, I have the inspiration of fellow women and most of all I have the stories of my fellow pulse users, their story’s are unique and genuine and real. Everyone is correct in saying, this is a global movement.

World Pulse offers me a challenge and I believe it will equip me with the tools to learn how to be a better communicator, to learn how to make my voice heard.. Already I have learned how to finish off my trail of thoughts from the first assignment.

What has been your experience so far of World Pulse? what have been your challenges? One of mine is responding to all the great articles…..but I try my best.

Keep it up!

Hi Tumani,

Thanks for sharing! My name is Margot and I am a listener for the VOF project. I can definitely relate with you on being a sensitive child and translating these feelings into my need to act personally. There are lots of things that I feel compelled to act on but my challenge has always been where to put my energy and figuring out what needs I can realistically address. I'm curious about how worldpulse aligns with your personal goals. What issues are tugging at you these days?

Best of luck with your efforts on providing a voice for the voiceless. Inspiring entry!

Hi Margot

Thanks for taking the time to read my journal entry. I have so many personal goals,a nd each day i strrive to be a better ME. If you read my journal entry for this week you will geta glimpse about my goals and why i chose the World Pulse Platform.

Essentially my first thoughts and journal entry i emphasised that i will not be of any use to anyone unless i start making changes in my own life and start accepting Me for who I am, and not seeking to be conformed to what the world says I am.

Reading journals from women at World Pulse i find my voice in some of what they have to say. Take for instance nsomuya (a world Pulse member). She stated so eloquently what i had been trying to let my family and friiends understand when i say that i am not yet happy with where i am in life and that is because i know i have much more to offer and at the moment only "20% of my potential" is being used. I guess that is part of the reason that i don't like it when i put myself in a box or others put in a box, I limit my pssibilities and that brings so much frustration to me. This is an example of what i seek to change.

Having a platfiorm such as World Pulse and helping other women figure themselves out, is one of my goals, offering needed encouragement and helping each other move forwards towards life goals was my goal. I have already started accomplishing my goals here at World Pulse, and most of all i have learned from the women at World Pulse as well, which i keep in my private jourmal as my encouragement. (Its so easy to lose track at times of who said what and when)

I guess i belive a lot in self-reflection and the ACTION that follows. In this day and age i dont think we do that, we are too busy with the daily struggles, we are too busy making someone else happy, too busy being numb to what is around us, e are busy flooded by what the world tells us to feel and do. For this reasson i wanted to a chance to learn from others and also share what i know about the impact of self-reflection. Together as women we would learn amd move forward, one perosn at a time.

I hope i made sense and i just did not ramble. Writing thoughts out can be tough at times. I hope i answered your question Margot.

Thanks again.
