Introducing myself and my journal: Peninsula Pathways to Confidence

About Me:
I am a retired educator. My work was with literacy at the early development stage. I am a reading recovery specialist who worked with First Nation Community as well as in local schools. In addition my role as vice- principal enabled me to support our community .
Currently I am the president of CFUW Saanich Peninsula near VIctoria BC.
Our club is aligning itself with young women who are attending the alternative education centre. Many are young mothers who are receiving counsel to complete their high school education in order to seek higher education.
We also support students in the local high schools as well as the college and the local university.
Our mandate is to link up with local community services in order to support young women in our community.

My Passions:

My Challenges:
Funding Lack if Visibility in community

My Vision for the Future:
Provide safe hub or centre to promote literacy

My Areas of Expertise:
Administration Education staff development literacy

Such important work! I wonder if you use digital resources in your work to improve literacy? If so, I wonder if you would be willing to compose a piece about digital issues for our Women Weave the Web Campaign? I'd love to hear your response and thoughts about how technology affects your life and the lives of women around you. After all it is through technology that you've shared your thoughts already! You can find out more information about the campaign here, It would be fabulous to have your voice join others as we think through issues around digital access in all its complexity.

As you may know, there is also a prize that will be awarded to an outstanding grassroots woman and visionary voice using digital tools to effect change and advance her community work. The prize will include the 2014 Lynn Syms Prize title, a $20,000 monetary prize to be paid out over two years to support her community based work, a feature profile on, and an all-expense paid trip to speak her message in New York City. You can find more on the website,

Wishing you peace,
