J'en appelle à la vigilance de tous les compatriotes où qu'ils se trouvent, de se mobiliser comme une seule personne pour barrer la route aux prédateurs de notre démocratie;

DRC, a Democracy in Peril

Recent threats and other intimidation tactics made by opposing forces are considered strategic maneuvers undertaken by those in power and aim to smother our young democracy, which was acquired through enormous sacrifice. The blatant attack on the integrity of the honorable president of the UNC (Union for the Congolese Nation), Vital Kamerhe during a peace procession in Bukavu in February speaks volumes on this subject.

More than a few Congolese are worried about the upcoming elections forecasted for 2016. The agenda proposed by the president of the Independent National Electoral Committee (CENI) has not met the population’s expectations with regards to the envisaged voting process. This poses serious corruption threats and could result in massive fraud.

I call for the vigilance of all of my compatriots, wherever they are, to mobilize to stop those from preying on our democracy. I also call upon the international community, as well as anyone dedicated to peace and justice to stand by the Congolese people, to pressure existing institutions to observe the international legal protocol that the DRC has already ratified. This is the only way in which the Congolese people will feel respected.
