"VOF Week 1: (Endless Possibilities)."
I believe Web 2.0 is the greatest and best idea that has been unleashed in recent times to create a platform for women empowerment and for the world to interact freely. For a long time, women voices have not been heard, or have been ignored and the thing that excites me most about web 2.0 is that at last, our voices can be heard, the world can feel what we’re feeling, and see what we’re experiencing, as though they were right where we are. It has given limitless opportunities for buying and selling, for telling the story as it is, for sharing and networking, opportunities to see and experience the world from the comfort of your home or office. It has created a network of people, groups, and organizations, to change the world in a unified way. It has broken the barriers of race, tribe, culture, and color.
With the endless opportunities that the Web 2.0 brings, it creates a platform for the global women empowerment movement to thrive and grow towards a better future for all women worldwide. Firstly, with women networking from around the globe, limited resources are met in various places through the different women projects established. This is due to the fact that, women can tell of what they’re doing at the grass root level and they can be supported with resources and skills they need to empower their fellow women.
It also brings solutions for world peace, where conflicts are resolved through collaborations with the linkages created by various organizations. Each one brings in the expertise that they have to build peaceable relations and exchange ideas.
Through resource sharing, women find opportunities for growth and development in the areas they’re lacking in knowledge. They get opportunities to help their communities, to thrive in their careers and get education scholarships also.
Information is power and it can liberate one and help in making the right decision when it is shared and can be easily accessed. This is why Web 2.0 is empowering to me. It equips me, as no man is an island and nobody knows everything. Women have tremendous wisdom and are very powerful, they are great mentors and hearing from other women around the world is such a great honor for me, it empowers me and teaches me to excel and be an extraordinary woman! It gives me a platform to hear others speak and also to be heard!

Advertising your business
Hi,
Your article is very intersting.
I have a question for you. You mentioned in your profile that you and your husband are running a business at grassroots level. Have you thought about using Web 2.0 to advertise since the technology offers great opportunities for business people to advertise their products?
The research that i did when i was preparing to write the assignement showed that social networking allows people to share likes and dislikes. Therefore, in advertising, you get to know more about what the customer wants. You don't have to hunt down your target audience and equally, they don't have to hunt you down.

Hello Terry,
Your thoughts are interesting. When you talk about solutions for world peace, i remember a facebook group on people against Xenophobia in South Africa. Web 2.0 tools help in advocacy.

Life without limit!
Thank you all for your comments. I am humbled and truly appreciate your input. Indeed Web 2.0 gives us limitless opportunities to be the very best we can be. It gives us a platform to be real! An avenue to tell the world who we really are. I'm sure we will all have the chance to tell the world the different things we're doing to make a difference even as we go on interacting.
It is wonderful to share views and to learn from my fellow women from around the world. This will be a very interesting journey indeed!
Bless you.

your enthusiasm is contagious
thanks so much, terry, for your entry. you are definitely bubbling over with enthusiasm and embracing new technology. i LOVE what you said, that "information is power"... historically, women have been banned from receiving the full degree of information that is available, and i think that the whole "catching up" process has definitely silenced their voices. it is not that men do not have value, but so much of what society has been built upon has been clearly male-influenced, and women can provide such a unique viewpoint, thus bringing us to solutions to problems that have long seems unsolvable. i look forward to hearing more about what YOU personally can do with this information and power: learning, teaching, leading, etc... what is unique about TERRY? what can she share and teach us? judging by your writing and enthusiasm, you have a LOT to offer as a mentor yourself!
Don't let your worries get the best of you. Remember, even Moses started out as a basket case.
Words become things!
Thanks Molliv, its quite encouraging when you hear from someone who thinks of you the way you do. I am truly humbled. I grew up feeling like i would amount to no good, especially because my dad always used to call me all kind of names, like stupid, foolish.....its amazing how much influence a parent or people can have over ones life especially in the early years of life. Anyway, i always felt that i was worth nothing, until i met the Lord and got born again and my whole perspective of life changed. I then purposed that i will build others with my words, my time, my effort, just so that no one around me ever feels like they're nothing. I have kinda made this my life goal, to mentor and bring out the best in others. God has graciously given me a position of authority from which i am able to speak to my 'children', to speak good into there lives, to encourage them, to help them dream again and have hope that anything is possible and nobody is doomed to failure. We all have a destiny within us, a dream of greatness and it is possible to fulfill it, some need encouragement, some need oversight, while others need someone to walk with them through it all, into fulfilling their dream. Thats my greatest joy in life! I pray for the grace each day, to make a difference in someones life!
Shalom!
