How to sell products made in Kenya? Advice?

I have been back in the USA for one a little over one month now and still think about the Power Women Group every single day. I have been trying to find ways to help them expand their market and sell the products they make. Recently, I talked to a store that is interested in selling some of their products. I was so thrilled and email the Power Women the good news.

At first I felt very satisfied and thought that was the best I can do. But as the days go by I can’t help thinking there has to be more. I have been working on making a website to sell their products online, but continue to get discouraged along the way. As I learned more about it I realized if I choose to run an online shop I would have to figure out how to pay taxes on the products sold. So, when pricing the products online I would have to increase the prices for both taxes and shipping fees. I don’t mind doing this, but I don’t know how to go about figuring it all out.

Recently, I wired the rest of the donation I collected for the Power Women Group over to Kenya. This was a difficult task. Because the women’s shop is located in the slums of Kibera and all the women live in the slums I only had a PO Box number to send the money to. My bank would not accept this and it took me weeks to find an address to put down to wire the money. Then when I finally did wire the money it cost $40 dollars to send. I keep thinking there must be an easier way to send money people do it all the time! I thought of using PayPal and have asked the women to try and set up a PayPal account, but they do not know how to set it up.

If you are reading this and have suggestion as to how to send money to Kenya and/or how to run an online shop I would greatly appreciate it!

to transfer funds to kenya, on reflection, and looking at it from as many angles as possible,
it seems most effecient use of energy to build networks via promoting new and existing networkers, such as below, this ought to work faster. with less wasted energy, and alos be ore accountable in short and long term review. an org people can get loans through which might meet some of the send money to kenya needs, or, under 'fieldpartners' and 'kenya' .

to online shop

to begin to set up a wholesale outlet based in usa, and selling ot usa, you might try an online marketplace, which sells to usa customers, and also should have tips and how to's on setting up shops and pricing, etc. export from and to usa and other countries is tricky for single items, which is why a wholesale set up might work better,

Post script doesn't go to kenya, but it gives ideas of possibilities, and research areas of micro finance, organisation that your client can reach, you will need to do research on appropriate services or perhaps develop existing ones. if you go this route

it is a fascinating area of study, with key links to resource sharing

I would suggest that you get in touch with Phionah, another World Pulse member and also a Voices of our Future correspondent for us at World Pulse!

She is in Kenya and has recently started working with Safe World for Women, and is selling some products. She might be a good contact for you!

Best wishes
