THE STORY OF MY LIFE

There is so much violence every day; it is a daily occurrence even within the family. The 16 Days of Activism make me reflect on a lot of things including seeing the shapes sexual violence takes. Women lead difficult lives in the face of many forms of sexist, gender-based violence.

I have faced many difficulties and I even feel buried. I have had to do tasks that don’t suit my personality; I'm like a slave within my own family and all the work is given to me. Even when my family had some brothers that could help me with my work, I still remained the victim of daily violence without finding any way to leave.

This continued into my new home, where all responsibilities still fall upon the woman. But we are trying all possible ways to stop these daily violences that we face and this helps us eliminate all forms of gender-based violence.

Awareness-raising and other forms of education help us end the violence that endangers women within their own families and in the workplace. Discrimination and stigmatization of women must be eliminated from our communities. Thus we show that all children are equal and that they should share work equally. Work doesn't have a sex and all children should share tasks equally regardless of sex.

Stand up for our rights

You are right. We need to educate our children that we are all equal. Our children are our hope for the future and hence we need them to understand that gender violence of any form at any place in unacceptable.

God bless you and keep you.

Gender violence

Dear Mapendo, thank you for sharing about your life as a woman. I'm afraid that most countries in the world are still ruled by men. The good thing is that women are gaining recognition for their good sense and intelligence, so are increasing in their involvement in government as well as family life. There are still a number of countries where women are not valued: India, Africa and the Middle East.

I raised my three daughters to become all they could be, with equal rights and expectations. While they all got married young (in their Father's view point) two of them are equal in their families.

Your mention about having access to the Internet and I guess that's the point. Your story is well written and honest and stresses this ability to make yourself connected to other women in the world. Congratulations and keep up talking and posting. Your voice is important, especially coming from the DRC. Blessings. William

Thanks for sharing with us

Thanks for sharing with us Mapendo. The situation you live in is extremely difficult but still you are not afraid to speak out and to work for a better life for you and your children!

It is an unfortunate reality that even in the 21st century, many places in the world still have tremendous inequality between men and women and horrible violence committed against girls and women. Thank you for having the courage to share a part of yourself and your life with us! I look forward to hearing more of your voice here in the World Pulse community.

Take care and my thoughts and prayers are with you and all the people of the DRC.
