Representing India in the International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific

International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific

Bangkok, Thailand is going to give me a space to voice my belief in the power of sharing knowledge and experiences between Africa and Asia to reach zero new HIV infection.Speaking in the International Congress here is for me carrying the story of the vast number of community based organizations of the sex workers and the transgenders who have implemented HIV intervention programs and are a superb learning resource for the world. I speak on the power of exchange of these country innovations between two continents worst affected by HIV: Africa and Asia and the high probability of success to contain new infections from this learning exchange.

Reporting from ground zero, International Congress on AIDS in Asia and Pacific, Bangkok, Thailand with updates, insights, thoughts and feelings.

Good one

Dear Urmilla,

Good one there! I shared same space with women living with HIV/AIDS and Disability as well as gays living with HIV in an Assembly in Korea. I shed tears hearing how people are being discriminated against because of their sexual orientation, HIV status.

I am doing a study around the issue. Would love to share ideas on policy brief and strategies.

Keep speaking my sister.

You are making an impact

Dearest sister Celine,

I have enjoyed our interactions in the past and our many positive conversations and discussions over matters related to HIV, sex workers and transgenders. I am just back from the 7 day trip to Thailand and in the forum, I was most touched by a role-play where a transgender said, " Transgenders are people too."

In that one liner, there were so many meanings hidden, a silent plea, to give them their space to live, prosper, thrive and find joy.

Please do mail me any time you wish to have a long conversation on this. I would look ahead to policy briefs and strategies and would love to extend my experience and thoughts on this.

Reach me at urmila.chanam@gmail.com.

Love and prayers,
In solidarity,
Urmila Chanam
