Safe Tips Healthy Live

Some general health tips to keep in mind:

If you are sexually active, practice safer sex and get tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). If you are sexually active with men, take some time to understand the risks of pregnancy, and the contraceptive options that are available.

To maintain a natural body weight and prevent the development of a preoccupation with food, avoid dieting.

Take the opportunity to boost bone health while you can still add to your bone density. Paying attention to bone health can prevent osteoporosis—both now and in the future.

Limit your consumption of alcohol and other drugs.

If you smoke cigarettes or chew tobacco, click here for information on how to quit or cut down.
Practice monthly breast self-exams to detect breast cancer.

Be pro-active about cultivating healthy ways to manage stress. Learn practical ways to improve the regularity and the quality of your sleep.

Recognize the importance of support. Everyone’s well-being depends on a supportive network of family and friends.

Great tips for everyone

Hi Amanda,

Your tips are great, not just for sexually active people but for EVERYONE. I like what you said about bone density and it is important to exercise now to build insurance or prepare for the future should something happen. That is true of all of your tips actually.

The reason I say all this is because I have a friend who has Level 4 cancer and EDS. EDS is a disease where you lose the coating over your veins, and your muscles. There is no cure and no slowing it down. She has always eaten wrong, never exercised and will even when she first got cancer would not go for physical therapy which would have helped her keep her body and muscles from deteriorating so fast. In addition to her regular meds she must take 6 potassium tablets but will only take 4 a day as she says they are too big and hurt her throat, even while the doctor said to crush them and put in something as she must take all 6.

So, your column really got to me. We may not be able to determine our fate BUT we can do everything simple as you suggest in your article to make us tough to break down.

I hope you repeat this article again so it goes back up to the top. Keep up your great work and infectious enthusiasm.

Thanks,

Thank You

Wendy,

Thank you for commenting and reaching out. I appreciate the kudos and kind words. I am so glad that the health tips spoke to you. I am so sorry for your friend. That must be a difficult pain to endure. My mother has Alzheimer's, I have been doing a lot of research in ways to prevent it. They are starting to think that it has a lot to do with heart health and is linked to people with high blood pressure....although it is difficult to escape hereditary fate...I may be able to prevent it as long as possible. :)

Virginia!

Thank You Wendy, that would be greatly appreciated! It would be wonderful to find cures for disease and illness that claims the lives of so many! I am currently living in Richmond, Virginia...just moved here, but I am originally from Ohio (born in Cleveland, used to live in Columbus)
