INTERNATIONAL RURAL WOMEN'S DAY

On Tuesday, October 15, 2013, Osodi celebrated International Rural Women's Day in Cirunga, Kabare. The women of Kabare spoke about the discrimination and neglect they face in their families and society, especially at work and other activities.
Osodi noted a large number of widows, orphans, and disabled in Cirunga who lack material and financial support and are very poor.
- The orphans told us they have no way to study, eat, or clothe themselves; they don't even have a place to live because their homes have been destroyed. They asked for Osodi's support but Osodi also lacks the means to help.
- We met more than 100 widowed women who had lost their husbands to war or sickness. These widows hoped we could help them in some way but unfortunately, we had nothing to offer. They want support; it is clear that they are dealing with considerable discrimination and neglect and that what their husbands left them has been taken from them.
- The disabled related how not being whole in their bodies makes them weak; they told us they need help with work because of their physical or mental disabilities. They want to do something but lack the means. Osodi is looking for a way to help the orphans, widows, and disabled of Cirunga.
